Baldwin’s work on this building was noted in the Manufacturers’ Record (Apr. 13, 1922). The construction bid was awarded to James J. Baldwin of Anderson, South Carolina, architect, and R. W. Wimbish of Athens, Georgia, contractor. Work began in April 1922, and took longer than expected, with the grand opening held in July, 1923. The building and the town of Marshall are also featured in the movie, My Fellow Americans.
