Soon after Charlotte erected the large, stone Charlotte City Hall by architect C. C. Hook (1923-1925) in imposing neoclassical style, the county commissioned Asbury to plan a courthouse of equal stature, with a long colonnade set in antis. This was one of Asbury’s most important commissions in Charlotte. It received an award from the North Carolina chapter of the AIA in 1929.
