Note:

As Heather Fearnbach notes in Winston-Salem’s Architectural Heritage, this is the earliest of several residences Jenkins planned for Winston-Salem citizens. Charles Gadson, an electrical engineer, and Jenkins met when both were students at NCA&T after World War II. Gadson became an electrical contractor and his commissions included several buildings Jenkins designed. Charles and his wife Irma asked for a “casual” floor plan to suit their sociable lifestyle; the couple saw their one-story, modernist brick home as “a house of the future” because it differed from others in the neighborhood.
