The large tan brick house features a tile roof and broad porch, combining eclectic details with the horizontality and simplicity evocative of the Prairie style. At one time the original plans survived at the house. Walter John Bergen was associated with Alexander Sprunt and Sons, the Wilmington cotton brokers.
