One of Carr’s more academic renditions of the Colonial Revival style, featuring a pedimented wing and modillion cornice, the Buchanan House is the largest residence in Forest Hills. The interior features a sweeping hanging staircase. Prominent businessman John Buchanan founded the Home Building and Loan Association and Home Insurance Agency, among his numerous Durham endeavors.
