Note:

The leaders of Black Mountain College commissioned the Bauhaus modernist architects Gropius and Breuer, recently arrived in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to plan a modernist campus suitable to the progressive mission and character of the college. Because of inadequate funds and the war in Europe, their design was not built. Another, simpler design was supplied by architect A. Lawrence Kocher, and a portion of that complex was built.
