The marble-fronted brick mansion of severe Greek Revival design is unique in the state. It is attributed to Gardner in later 19th century newspaper accounts (see Wilmington Dispatch of July 28, 1896). The Wilmington Star of July 2, 1902, noted that McMillen had designed “extensive and costly repairs” to the building.
