Note:

The cottage was evidently planned by Baldwin for his family and built by Joe Webb, who became well known in the area for his rustic architecture. It was later owned by the distinguished biologist William Chambers Coker of the University of North Carolina, a leader at the nationally important Highlands Biological Station.
