Joseph F. Leitner, architect
Lumberton, Robeson County
Chestnut St. at Courthouse Square, Lumberton, NC
The News and Observer of Raleigh reported on May 25, 1914, that Leitner was architect for the "new Lumberton Hotel" to cost $80,000. Because of financial problems related to World War I in Europe, the Lumberton Hotel Company was unable to construct the proposed 60-room hotel. In 1916 the company contracted for a smaller hotel to have 48 rooms (see Frank B. Simpson's Lorraine Hotel [The Robesonian, June 22, 1914, Jan. 10, 1916, Aug. 31, 1916]).
